Alonzo’s restless hands are strong
from a lifetime of habitually, obsessively shaping clay and clay-like substances into the large mammals he so admires. While institutionalized at 12-years old, Alonzo would find “clay” by scraping softened tar off the blacktop or peel off the putty that was used to seal windows to their frame. A series of sticky “tar-baby” like animals were found underneath his bed.
